Letting Jacky treat him with so little respect while they were together He also agonizes about why he let him get away with his abuse for so long yet he always forgave Jacky and let him come back Carter knows that he should have left Jacky long before he was killed and is having serious problems ustifying his masochistic behavior Even though he thinks so he hasn t moved on He likes Red but because of his reputation he is very wary of him Even so it s still a battle to resist Red s charm Carter admits that he s impressed by Red s persistent but respectful presence in his life Red is a good companion and friend showing an amazing amount of self control The better he gets to know Red through his words and deeds the Carter has to admit that Red is genuinely a good person and someone whom he s not sure he wants to live withoutThis is the fifth story in the True Colors series and I enjoyed it as much as I have the other four These outstanding books may be read separately but in order to feel the complete impact it s better if they are read in seuential order The book is well written with engrossing uniue characters and plots which flow seamlessly from one into the next tying up the action clearly and precisely I recommend this book wholeheartedly to fans of the True Colors series and to readers new to the series as well If you like stories with angst intrigue passion character growth sexy passionate men and a happy ending you will enjoy this book Thanks so much Clare I d love to see a story for Owen and Jag sometime in the future How about it NOTE This book was provided by Dreamspinner Press for the purpose of a review on Rainbow Book Reviews Review written for Hearts on Fire Reviews This book is the follow up to True Colors and the subseuent short stories that also center around Miles and Zeke from that book Here we have Miles and Zeke s good friend Red de Vere and Carter Davison the lover of Zeke s deceased brother JackyI loved Red from the start when we met him in book 1 He was fun and snarky and ust didn t care a whole heck of a lot about what people thought or at least he didn t make excuses for his behavior Unfortunately aside from the incident in the beginning which wasn t even intentional on his part he is uite toned down in this storyThen we have Carter whom I really had a hard time connecting with Even before Zeke stated Carter was the king of mixed messages I had said it out loud to myself He is still suffering over the loss of Jacky though I had a difficult time understanding why when Jacky was so horrible to him the entire time he was alive The same thing goes for Zeke but he has the sibling connection to explain it Then after much time is spent on Carter and his Jacky issues he flips and states he was going to leave him but never had the chance to before he died And the way he flip flopped with Red was making me a little crazy He isn t ready for anything than friends then he is kissing Red How Red had the patience or desire to continue pursuing Carter was beyond meEven still I was longing to see something happen between them This story focuses on a few different things besides their relationship though Aside from Jacky s death being continually rehashed there was the story about the youth center Carter was working on This introduced some new people and some interesting teen characters but the constant reference to them as young people seemed a little odd after a whileAs I said earlier Red continues to pursue Carter and one way is to volunteer his help with the renovations at the youth center There is some trouble with a few of the young people ending in another fire which seems
to help finally push Carter past his issues with Jacky enabling him to really move on help finally push Carter past his issues with Jacky enabling him to really move on RedWe Get To See RedWe get to see bit of Miles and Zeke in this story though they seem to be comfortable with their relationship and I enjoyed seeing them throughout this story The writing itself is smooth and easy to read It takes a while for Red and Carter to get on the same page for sex but when it happens it is fun and steamy with a few surprises from Carter thrown into the mix Red continues to be one of my favorite characters and while these guys didn t have the same intensity as Miles and Zeke they still have a lot of potential Perhaps we will get to see how they are getting along in the future As much as I wanted to like this story it was ust too bogged down in excessive details for me The romance was completely overshadowed by all the extra characters and their individual issues I ust didn t care It s never a good sign when I skim but it was either that or a dnf I m sorry Why I waited so long to read this is beyond my comprehension but I did I very much enjoyed this one but I knew I wanted Red De Vere s story after read True Colors The reviews on this one a really mixed bag everything from 1 star to 5 and I m sure there were probably some dnf s in there as well Interestingly for me one of the things that I really liked about this story was something that made it not so great for some other readers and that was the fact that it did have a fair amount of detail in it meaning it rehashed some of the background info from True Colors probably because it s been at least 5 years since I read True Colors it didn t feel repetitive and was a good thing for me because 5 years and a few hundred books even my memory can get fuzzy after thatI enjoyed watching Red and Carter s relationship develop from friends to something deeper stronger and lasting While Red was definitely ahead of Carter in knowing what he wanted he was willing to wait give Carter the time to get there on his own I also liked seeing Red grow and change into a mature person and how he showed Carter the person that his public persona was meant to protect from the rest of the world Carter had his own issues to work through and he did finally get to that point where he could let go of the past and begin to build the kind of future for himself and with Red that he wantedSo overall this for me was a really good read and I very much enjoyed getting a peek at Miles and Zeke as they showed up throughout the story I would definitely recommend reading True Colors before tacking this one Even though there is a lot of background in this I thing I enjoyed it all the for having read True Colors and getting Miles and Zeke s story from their perspective as well as the friendships that exist between Zeke and Carter and Miles and Red It s all interwoven and for me worked best by starting at the beginning The story suffers from the curse of the seuelsbadlyIt deserves a nice rant but I m not in the mood it ust made me sadI can t even bring myself to click on the two stars Must be my old age or the new Goodreads depression sorry. Arter can also think of nothing worse than being the lover of someone in the public eye Playboy Red must stay an attractive friend that’s allWhile Red yearns for something real Carter has some sweet sexy secrets that might surprise even Red If Carter dares emerge from his shell and Red pursues a rewarding path romance could spark Then there’s no telling what might happen. .
S Red to take care of him And then it s than Elisabeth Shue 135 Success Facts - Everything You Need to Know about Elisabeth Shue just taking care As the relationship between Red and Carter smooths out there are troubles at the Youth Center There was a break in coupled with lots of vandalism Of course this happened right before some prospective sponsors came to see the place Red Carter and all the others find themselves working twice as hard to get the center ready to open on time That s when the fire startsThis was the long awaited seuel to True Colors It was also the book Carter and Red needed to have This book wasust so them I had been expecting another explosive relationship like Zeke and Miles had That was foolish on my part as Red and Carter aren t Zeke and Miles You can tell by the different names even There were a few things I wanted from this book that I got I ust got them in ways I didn t expect I needed Carter to really deal with how terribly Jacky treated him For some reason I imagined him talking about it dramatically Of course he didn t as not only is he a guy he s repressed his feelings so far he doesn t recognize he has them He s also had a few years since Jacky s death to deal with his problems Whereas Carter was pretty messed up by Jacky his trauma wasn t recent he didn t need page after page of weeping It was what I wanted but wouldn t have been right at allAs I said the book was very much the book Red and Carter needed and it fit their personalities perfectly The problem I had with that was I didn t realize Red and Carter were a touch boring I certainly had no problem staying engaged in the book and I didn t want to put it down but the details of painting the local youth center weren t something that had me riveted I was waiting for the story to get to the good parts in some instances One other thing that bugged me was the freuency the word bemused was used Can I get a perplexed thrown in there to change it up I really enjoyed the MilesZeke True Color stories and I was looking forward to reading about Red and Carter I didn t Throwing in an extra star for the MZ cameos though because they re the only reason I kept reading the story 35 starsIf you haven t read Book 1 True Colors this review will contain spoilers We continue a few months after the end of True Colors and Zeke and Miles are now in a committed relationship The focus shifts to their best friends Carter and Red we knew it was coming there were indications previously that something was brewing between these twoJacky s ghost continues to have a huge influence in the plot kind of like the dead Rebecca de Winter in de Maurier s famous work while Zeke has worked with Miles s help through his guilt and remorse over his brother s death Carter still has issues with moving on He was Jacky s faithful lover but Jacky s constant philandering and abusiveness have left Carter haunted brooding with trust issues and shut off to loving anyone elseRed De Vere vibrant wealthy playboy who knows his way around the club scene and society pages still has his eye on the uiet handsome Carter Red doesn t know how to take no for an answer He is intrigued He senses a darker complicated man under the controlled facade and needs to convince Carter that he is much than the shallow party boy persona he s uickly tiring of We get Miles and Zeke s dynamic again with this new couple repressed and controlled versus vibrant and dynamic reluctant and complex versus patient and determined the formula is one we ve already seen in the first bookThis installment in the series is calmer and uieter as Red works his way slowly into Carter s confidence This couple has some great sexual tension but it is a very slow build up and
THERE ISN T A LOT OF isn t a lot of elsewhere in the story The guys come together because of their oint work on building a new non profit teen center in London There is a side story involving some nicely written teen characters at the center and an act of vandalism there and the author again uses fire as a plot catalyst Other than this we mostly have a carefully made character study I wasn t uite as taken with the story here but I did find Carter and Red two very interesting well written characters though Red s affected southern drawl he is British which he hides behind feels odd In fact in the books the author uses differences in speech from uite formal to lingo to further delineate the opposing characters The issues Carter and Red need to overcome and the growth they undergo make for some sympathetic reading and I would recommend Flying Colors for that study for my review of Book 1 which can be read right before this one go to True Colors Book 1For this review give aways author interviews and much When you really want something You cant give up ust because things don t come easy You have to overcome the obstacles and face your fears But in the end its all worthwhileif you believe in yourself you will always come through with flying colors unknownHaving a fa ade you can hide behind can come in handy especially if you are important enough to attract the paparazzi but it can also be detrimental Red Devere of Flying Colors by Clare London has pretended to be Outrageous And Promiscuous For A and promiscuous for a time In fact he has a well rehearsed dog and pony show which he has performed for so long that even he hardly knows who the real Red is It s never been that important in the past but now that he s hoping to win Carter Davidson s affection Red realizes that who he really is is something he needs to figure outRed gives everyone the impression that he s shallow and cares only about himself He seems to love being in the public eye and blatantly ignores society s rules doing outrageous things ust for the attention it will garner from the press Deep down Red is not the clown he appears to be at all He has a gentle compassionate heart and is a very giving person who will gladly help a friend however he can He hides this very well but the people who know and love him especially his mother his best friend Miles and his lover Zeke know that Red is a person with a good heart who tries to be kind to everyone and even they have to wonder what he s up to sometimes The thing is others don t see him this way including Carter They only sees Red s public persona the one who at best treats life as a game taking nothing seriously They don t know that Red freely gives of himself and his money without having a hidden agenda They are skeptical about anything he says or does Red has a lot of work to do to show them otherwiseCarter is still reeling from the horrendous mistreatment he endured from Jacky his ex lover and is not anxious to put himself out there any time soon if ever Carter has locked his feelings down tight Carter is suffering from a lack of self esteem and is torturing himself about. Nd when he dares to consider that possibility for himself his hopes and desires rest in his uiet serious friend Carter DavisonCarter loved a man who cheated on him then died violently and he refuses to make himself vulnerable again He knows Red is interested; Red has been supportive and admiring since they met And Carter's honest enough to admit he’s attracted to Red But To read my full review please visit is the 5th book in the series however it s not necessary to read all the previous books Gone (Gone, just the first book There are several references to major plot points in True Colors book 1 so reading the first book would help familiarize yourself to the characters and their personalitiesRed gets into trouble with the media and a nude photo of him prints in the newspapers His father forces him to take a break from work and find something fulfilling to do with his life Meanwhile Red is still actively pursuing Carter Carter is still recovering from his ex boyfriend s death but can t reject Red s offer to help at a youth center where Carter spends most of his time working Through hardships and supporting each other through emotional whirlwinds they gradually build their love relationshipI love the romance between Carter and Red and its fully developed Both of them evolved and changed into better persons Carter is a bit of a hypocrite with he says he see beyond Red s media playboy facade but stilludges him for it Red catches on to that and gets mad but stays with Carter Eventually Carter gets pass his grief and guilt you ll find out why after reading the book with Red s help and confesses to RedRed gets a push from his father to find his life s path instead of acting as an entertainment for the media Red oins Carter on helping run a youth center for troubled teens And there s plenty of trouble following the teens As the newcomer Red needs to earn their respect and make a place for himself at Carter s sideThere is plenty of drama with various characters and trouble at the youth center but the majority of the book focuses on Carter s and Red s romance how they support each other and eventually become a couple in public Overall I really enjoyed it Even though the story may seem a little slow it picks up the pace towards the end I definitely recommend this book for fans of Clare London s work and True Colorsreview copy received in exchange for an honest review I ve been waiting for this book for ages ever since I first met Red and Carter in True Colors I confess to being one of the ones begging for their story Spin offs seuels and series are harder to write than they look Clare and I even shared a blog about the concept of seuels and series here I pre ordered the story and devoured it as soon as I couldI was not disappointed It isn t easy getting the balance between showing the established couple from the initial book keeping their relationship with the character in the picture building the new relationship and making it relevant to the world they live inI feel Clare came up trumps I felt convinced they were right for each other Neither revealed their true fears and strengths to the other inititally for fear of being hurt but we saw those strengths in their interactions with othersI enjoyed the way they dealt with the youth centre Sure it is a trope but there were a number of very pointed messages in there from the author about how these things could and should be organised so I felt that lifted it from being ust a plot deviceAs usual the prose read fluidly I m a nit picker and if it had been in my hands as a beta reader there would be very little red on the page Which as those who have had to suffer at my hands know is a rare thingI haven t read anyone else s reactions to the story for the simple reason I wanted to see it through my own eyes firstIf anything I enjoyed it than I did True Colors Not sure why perhaps because I knew the characters better Red and Carter are likeable but not two dimensional I appreciated the interaction with the parentsThe tension and conflict didn t come from manufactured bullies or villains it was whether they could get over their own prejudices At one stage Carter makes a oke about Zeke and Miles being like Jane Austen s story there was certainly a lot of prejudice on Carter s side But he Jane Austen s story there was certainly a lot of prejudice on Carter s side But he saw through the brittle

Carter Also Knows He Has To Figure also knows he has to figure how to let go of Jackie Untitled. just as his friend and Jacky s brother Zeke is urging him to do Despite himself Carter tells Red he s been working at the Greenlake Youth Center Red tells Carter he d love to help Carter is very surprised and not especially appreciative when he learns Red was seriousRed dives into helping with renovations at the youth center Carter is kind of aerk He s reluctant to admit to himself someone like Red would be willing to work with his hands and clean and build a youth center When Red makes a donation of sports euipment to the center Carter loses all his calm and yells at Red It s awful Red can clearly see Carter is still completely messed up by his previous relationship with Jacky and can also clearly see Carter doesn t understand Red s actions at all Despite being flayed by the man he s reluctantly fallen in love with Red goes back to the youth center to volunteer even of his time He meets the young people who will eventually be spending time there once the place is open and he s able to spend time with Carter after Carter let loose with all his fears of where their relationship could possibly go wrong Carter seems relaxed after his outburst He also has to deal with some problems with one of the boys that freuents the youth center Things move along with the youth center renovations and with Red and Carter s relationship It s not a great romance yet but Carter allow.
